Carlingford Lough divides Northern and Southern Ireland outside Newry.  We launched from the Northern side at Greencastle.  This involved a beach launch over stones and firm sand.  There are no changing facilities here and retrieval at low tide is nearly impossible - a Jeep is advisable.
The superstitious should leave this wreck alone as there was terrible loss of life.  The Connemara was a passenger and cargo steamer of 1197 tons.  She left Grenore in 1916, and collided with the Retriever, a coal ship.  Ninety three people lost their lives.
The absence of coal suggests it was the Connemara we dived.  It lies in approx 6m of water and both the Connemara and Retriever lie close together.  It is a good novice dive, and the ship sits whale bone fashion on the sea bed.  There is plenty of sea life around the ship and we had viz. of 5-10 m.
