BAEK HO TAEKWONDO GRADING
SYLLABUS
Most Taekwondo
Students like to see results, they need to be re-assured that they are
progressing and all enjoy being rewarded for their efforts. It is also necessary
to receive feed back on performance. To address this need in Taekwondo Students
the Grading System has evolved.
Baek Ho Taekwondo
has a syllabus which is followed and guides the student towards the coveted
black belt status. So, at regular intervals, the skills within that syllabus
are assessed and students who satisfy the Grading Examiner that they are ready
to move onto the next level of skills are awarded the next coloured belt in the
system.
Following Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo Federation Rules all Taekwondo Examiners
should be recognised and certificated 4th Dan or higher Dan Grade Masters.
Within Baek Ho
Taekwondo there are 10 coloured belts that lead the student to the black belt.
Coloured belt students are known as Kup Grades. The Kup Grades in chronological
order are:
10th
Kup WHITE
9th
Kup WHITE WITH YELLOW TAG
8th Kup YELLOW
7th Kup YELLOW
WITH GREEN TAG
6th Kup GREEN
5th Kup GREEN

Baek Ho Taekwondo
conduct Kup Grade Assessments at three monthly intervals. Only students who
train more than once a week will be considered for every grade, those who train
once a week will only be considered for alternate grades. The Class Instructor
will enter students for grades when he believes that the student is ready to
advance to the next level, this is not a guarantee that the candidate will pass
the grade.
Many aspects are
taken into account to decide if a student is ready to progress to the next
level, the physical is not the only consideration, factors such as attitude,
effort, regularity of training and etiquette are important when considering the
promotion of a student.
Please note that
unless you are a white belt, if you only train once a week you will only be able
to grade every 6 months and not every 3 months. Also if you have not attended at
least 70% of the available lessons between your last grading and your next
grading you will also not be able to grade and must wait 6 months. There are a
few exceptions but this is the instructor's decision.
The Grading
Examiner makes a fair judgement on the following criteria:
Etiquette, self
control, the will to succeed and physical ability such as focus, concentration,
balance, power, breath control and flexibility required at each level.
Candidates are
given feed back on their application forms that are returned to them after the
grade.
Successful
candidates are presented with the next belt in the system and a certificate of
achievement, usually at the next lesson they attend.
Being assessed can
be daunting and stressful, but it is a challenge that most people find very
rewarding.
