This experimental
percussion art ensemble organized and conducted
by Richard Schory,
is one of the most unique musical organizations
in America today.
Through the use of over 100 different percussion
instruments,
including piano, as well as stringed bass and guitar, the
group possesses
almost unlimited tonal possibilities. In creating this
fresh new sound,
Schory utilizes both melodic and harmonic elements
of the chromatically
tuned percussion and also takes full advantage of
the rhythmic
potential of instruments of indefinite tuning. This album
presents true
percussion artistry by ten top professional musicians each
playing
as many as five and six different instruments in a single number.

This is an album
which can establish or shatter a great gamut
of moods, for
yourself or an expendable friend. It's especially
good for getting rid of wholesome guests or keeping incorrigibles
entertained. It's all done with new percussion sounds. Some soft
and caressing,
others big and wild.Instruments include virtually
everything
which can be stroked, plucked, poked or banged. Some
in the
trade, have called this America's first "bang-along"record.

In "Politely
Percussive", Schory displays the gently swinging
side of his
Percussion Pops Orchestra. Here is tasteful, subtle
music with a
quiet excitement. The arrangements are all fresh &
modern.The Playing
is inspired. This is the sound of a group of
"First-rate
musicians" playing not a routine date, but with extra-
ordinary rapport
and dedication. All the color and brightness of
the Schory
approach is here but the effect is more rich velvet than
flashing
steel. Here is the excitement and variety of a percussion
band,
but with subtlety and restraint. In a phrase..........................
